Who is Flik Graphic Design?

Flik Graphic Design is a Brisbane based boutique design studio that is owned and operated by husband and wife team Flik and Chay. Flik does all things creative, while Chay handles the administrative and IT side of the business. Flik started the business in 2013 and in 2017 Chay left his day job to come and join the business full time. If you call the office Chay is probably the person you’ll speak to, while Flik is the one that will give your brand a fabulous visual makeover.

A decade ago I had an office job that was making me miserable and a burning desire to become a graphic designer. So I enrolled in a Diploma of Graphic Design and attended class after work (they were long, long days). I was offered my first job before I’d even graduated and commenced work as a junior graphic designer at a digital agency. It was literally half the pay of my previous job, so I had to take a second job to pay my mortgage, but it was one of the happiest times of my life.

I worked there for a couple of years before moving on to other agencies. A few years into my career I was offered my dream job at a prestigious advertising agency. But after working there for just one day I realised that it wasn’t what I wanted – I didn’t want to work for a big advertising agency and big corporate brands. I wanted to work with heart-centered businesses that I really connected with. So I started my own agency!

I started Flik Graphic Design in 2013 and never looked back. That leap of faith has allowed me to do what I love while giving me the flexibility to live life on my terms.  The business grew and soon my husband Chay joined the team so he could help with the non-design related parts of the business. Life as business owner (and a mum!) is tough, but I’m forever grateful for my business and my amazing clients.

I spent the first five years of my career working at a large printer and mailhouse before moving into the not-for-profit sector. When Felicity started the business, I supported her in whatever way I could, but I was limited by my day job. Felicity hired other people to help her, but she struggled to find someone with the unique set of skills that she was looking for. One day as she list off all of her requirements we realised that I was the perfect fit for the job!

With over 10 years experience in marketing, direct mail and community engagement, in both commercial and not-for-profit sectors, I had the skills that she needed to compliment her design talents. I left my job so that I could join the business full-time, so Felicity and I are now partners both in life and in business! Felicity handles the design side of things, while I handle everything else, including administration, project management and IT.
